Why Paint?
My testimony to the personal impact of the joys of painting, especially for those who are new to this endeavor.

Like many people, I started painting in midlife, after my kids moved out and I had time to fill and was restless. Like many hobbies, it filled my time but has given me so much more.
I have found painting to be almost therapeutic, it has a meditative quality about it, the choosing of the colors, the flow of paint off your brush and the emptying of your mind from everything else except what you are looking at and what you are going to do next.
The key to me is this- don't constrain yourself by thinking you have to be "good" . Everyone starts their journey at square one and everyone has their own idea of what is art and what is beautiful. Relish the journey, even the mistakes: especially the mistakes! Mistakes are where all the learning and growth takes place. It is only after you realize that you did something that didn't work that you then try a new technique or take a new approach.
Painting brings up feelings of childhood art class, the smell of a museum, the sound of brushes being swished in an old coffee can and the joy of seeing your own visions come to life in brilliant color.
You may start this journey out of boredom but I hope you continue it for the endless fascination the journey provides and what it does for your soul. Happy Painting my friends!
